cdir, I think the first thing I would do is to check the newest jaunty
release (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/ - alpha6 is currently
the latest version). The GM45 graphics chipset is pretty new, and there
has been a number of bugs for this chipset that have been corrected in
the driver in
any advise to get more information about the crash?

the crash just happened again, and my logs get similar errors:

I have a fresh and updated install of ubuntu in my Sony Vaio VGN-
SR250FN.
Indeed the fresh installation didn't correctly recognize the video card
and i changed the xorg.conf settings to:
