a praat UVF exception was approved and 4.4.19-1ubuntu1 was uploaded to
Dapper. This should fix the problem. If it doesn't please reopen the
bug.

IMHO it should be fine to update as it's a) not working at all on amd64
currently and b) the changes are only bugfixes from what you said

Then you should exclude the AMD64 architecture for this package since it's
totally unusable in it's current state.
BTW, the changes from 4.4.12 to 4.4.14 are bugfixes: the minimum changes
required to avoid potential crashes on AMD64. You can see it from the debdiff.
