This is not a duplicate of 267399. That bug is about a failed execution
of lame. In this bug, lame succeeds but produces a file full of
static.

I have the same problems on Kubuntu Jaunty (amd64).
I found this old Debian bug, possibly related:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=388382
There, the hardcoded lame switch '-x' causes breakage. Maybe what ails us is
similar?
** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #388382
I agree with the previous person, this is definitely not lame because I
can also create MP3 files using lame from a command line. It must be a
KDE issue. Also, this has only started since 9.04.

I have the same problem, LAME is fine though, as I can get perfect MP3s
using the lame command on WAV files!
Sounds like the wrong parameters or file are being passed to Lame!

I've determined its LAME because I ripped audio in K3B and ran into the
same problem.
** Package changed: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) = lame (Ubuntu)
