Thanks for looking at this Scott :)
I use this package for work, and so does everyone else in my team - it's
integral to our work, so having this not working in Karmic would be
rather frustrating to say the least.
Usually I wouldn't post a message like this, but given the importance of
this packa
So we have a bit of a problem. I did take a look at this and maven2 now
needs libmaven-clean-plugin-java to build. Unfortunately, the source
for this package (maven-clean-plugin) also build depends on libmaven-
clean-plugin-java, so there is no way to build it without manual
bootstrapping. I'll
Well put Martin! For a while there I thought everyone had gone nuts. I
know no one wants extra work this close to a release but there are a lot
of people (myself included) who depend on Maven.

Right. No one wants to leave it broken, the problem is none of the Ubuntu
devs involved in this conversation use it, so it isn't always clear to us
the path forward.

Oh and Scott. I agree with Martin .. if the package stays as is it is
not usable at all and should actually be removed and people should use
the upstream install instead. That would be a sad state of affairs..

I hate to repeat things and sound like a screaming lunatic, but this is
the argument for syncing maven NOW instead of AFTER release:
YOU CANNOT RUN THE MAVEN INCLUDED IN KARMIC.
This package is BROKEN. If you do not either sync from debian or revert

As a Java developer that uses Maven professionally and develops on
Ubuntu every day I would strongly suggest to upgrade Maven. Otherwise I
would actually remove Maven2 as a package since that would at least
force users to install from the upstream tar and use the latest one
instead of using the old
Hi,
Also, I tried earlier in the cycle to get the maven package in a good shape,
and this is the mail exchange I had with ttx:

Following Sync guidelines:
Source package name: maven2
Sync version: 2.2.1-1
Sync from: Debian sid experimental
Changelog since current version:
maven2 (2.2.1-1) unstable; urgency=low
* New upstream release (Closes: #542546)
* Update download url for debian/watch and debian/orig-tar.sh
The other alternative would be to slot the old versions of Maven's
dependencies.

I meant that the Maven that is currently in Karmic (2.0.9) does is
completely broken (does not work at all with the synced version of
libplexus). In this case Maven must be synced with libplexus in order
for Maven to work. Since libplexus has already been synced, syncing the

The new version of libplexus is not compatable with Maven 2.0.9, so
Maven does not work at all. This is a blocker bug, not a wishlist item.

rdepends are reverse dependencies, i.e. packages that depend on maven2
(or other binary packages from the affected source packages). You can
find out with apt-cache rdepends .
At this point in the cycle, I'd very much like to see the packages
tested.
