We are somewhat unable to reproduce the issue here. What statement would
you think that is bashism in there? Konstantin is using /bin/sh linked
to dash on his system and having no issues at all:
localhost:/# ejabberdctl stats uptimeseconds
338907
localhost:/# stat /bin/sh
File: `/bin/sh' -
checkbashisms on the script doesn't give anything neither - do you have
anything special set in your /etc/default/ejabberd file? Please send the
output of grep -v '^#' /etc/default/ejabberd
