[Bug 132039] Re: [gutsy] /etc/network/if-up.d/50firestarter exited with return code 2
I think I've been hited by this bug, too. Firestarter do not start automatically on startup the system, supposedly it should starts when eth0 is brought up. Also when I try - sudo ifup eth0 or - sudo ifdown eth0 I can see the return code 2 message and firestarter does not start. On the other hand, executing directly - sudo /etc/init.d/firestarter start starts firestarter without any error. Googling a little I have found a quite simple workaround that works for me. I have just reinstalled the firestarter package: - sudo apt-get install --reinstall firestarter This supposedly should do nothing at all (install the same version of the package that is already installed) but the fact is that the problem vanishes after this. Perhaps there is some other package, the installation or upgrading of which somehow breaks firestarter configuration (??) that is restored reinstalling firestarter. The dpkg -L fail2ban gives me /etc/fail2ban.conf on Ubuntu 8.04.1. If a configuration file is shipped with a package but not used by that package, then it's a bug. fail2ban.jail doesn't exist on my system, /etc/fail2ban/jail.conf does. When crop is set to 0 the quality setting works. I am using an eee-pc (900a, with ubuntu 8.10) as server for my webcam (quickcam sphere af). For example: I use camE for the aquarium webcam on my webpage: http://www.erdenkriecher.de/fisch , but the pictures are relatively big in filesize (about 63k). So i wanted to reduce quality, but the quality setting has no effect, even when I set the quality to 15 the new pictures looks high quality and were about 63k. When I turned of the cropping the quality setting works as normal and the jpg-picture were smaller in size and blocky (as you would estimate with a quality setting of 15). [Bug 331564] Re: sometimes notification flickers when fading in
The fade-in/out animations of the notification-bubbles rendered by notify-osd are indeed explicitly controlled by notify-osd. This way it works under compiz and metacity in the same way, is predictable for the user (from a user-interaction point-of-view) and can be fine-tuned to match all possible corner-cases (from the designers point-of-view). Another fact to note is that some people might have the animation-pluing disabled. What should we do in that case? Relying on external components, apart from desktop-compositing, is not a good idea.
