Actually, that's an issue with Ubuntu. It's aimed at the desktop user
and not devs. You need to apt-get (or Synaptic) all the tools needed
for building packages. (make, autoconf, automake, libtool, gcc, glibc,
g++, and who knows what else).

This one's really frustrating. I'm running server 6.2.1 on OpenBSD.
OpenBSD does not support any locales except C. My file names are all
utf-8, because the files are imported from a Mac. The server thinks the
character set in use is 8859-1, which works fine except for playlists.

I would not have thought of a distro not having make installed.
Slimserver is now running well from the command line. Now if I could

The default skin is currently being reworked to remove (most of) the
images and replace them with css formatted html. This might make quite a
difference. Not 5MB though.

apt-get install make
assuming it's at all like de
I followed the instructions provided by Kay on a fresh ubuntu 5.10
install, but get the following error when running
/usr/local/slimserver/Bin/build-perl-modules.pl

Using the debian-based SimplyMEPIS distro
I just downloaded the tar.gz file (perl source code)
Extracted it to /home/username/slimserver
and started it with:
/home/username/slimserver/slimserver.pl --daemon
works great! less filling!

latest 6.5 tar and it comes in at around 9Mb, the last version I have
comes in at 14Mb, have I missed something :-) or has the product
changed? Come someone fill me in as to what has gone on?
