Problem solved. After a week of brain damage, I decided to upgrade to
MySQL 5.0 and completely remove and reinstall Slimserver.
This appears to solve the problem.

Last week, I upgraded my SS on Ubuntu from ver. 6.5 to 6.5.1. Since
then, I cannot access the server from a web browser.
I "netsat | a" and did not find any application using port 9000.
I ran ps ax | grep slim and saw the following:

Dear Stuart,
Sorry to say, I'm not qualified to give you any help, but you are using
the exact system I had in mind to use. (Same distro, USB hard
drive, etc.) So even though I don't have the solution, I will be
following your case closely for selfish reasons.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on too many things to predict.
I don't speak Debian, but I've been using assorted package managers f

I get an error about errmsg.sys containing too few error-messages.
Searching the forums, I found thread telling me to copy my
system-errmsg.sys to the SlimServer/MySql, but that didn't help.
Something is badly wrong here, I cannot use apt-get remove slims
I get an error using apt-get to install slimserver on Debian. I already
have slimserver running "manually", but I thought it would be neat to
try out the Package what with the startup scripts and all. Anyway, this
is the error I get:

here.

I'd be interested in this too, as 6.5.1 (upgrade from 6.5.0) doesn't
work at all on my system.
And I'd like to completely remove 6.5.1 before I reinstall 6.5.0.

This seems to be the only issue now: I ended up installing a lot more
prerequisite packages, due to errors at startup of slimserver. I am
stuck here: I've tried using cpan manually and using the script
included within slimserver. Any ideas?

unable to get it to run with 6.5.1.
Does anyone know of a basic FAQ of how to get 6.5.1 runnin
