Yup, I chronicled my exploits on the Ubuntu forums. Had to do some
strange fix. Search for "broken Synaptic Package Manager" or "broken
samba".

Officially getting pissed off now.
Okay, so it happened again...kinda. The server seems fine, but I'm
trying to transfer files to it and BAM down goes the connection. So I
actually manage to NX into the box (surprise!) and am able to confirm
that / has 15GB free, before BAM, it drops again. Th

You can issue the 'gksudo nautilus' command from a terminal window but
you probably need to correct the folder ownership/permissions problem.

Now I'm trying to get some plugins installed - I'm using Ubuntu Dapper.
I've unzipped SuperDateTime, but it won't let me write it to
usr/share/slimserver/plugins - it says the owner of the directory is
root, so I don't have permission as my normal user, 'test'. I'd prefer
to do this with the GUI f
So does that mean that it's all working now?

Hey Mark, did you get this fixed up?
How do you find Dapper and SS in general?
My XP box is temporarily out of service for a HD replacement, so I'm

Here is the advice I got from taurus, a ubuntu forum staff member, which
is basically to override the automounting by adding the external drive
partitions to fstab:
Edit /etc/fstab
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/fstaband add these two lines to the end of it.
Code:
/dev/sda1 /media/sda1 ntfs nls=
