Did you add the Slimserver repositories that snarlydwarf mentioned?
Or did you install from the official Ubuntu repositories?
Ubuntu official is usually a different version than that available from
deb http://debian.
Sorry if I have made a mistake on versions, which is older or newer.
The one I have installed on Ubuntu is 6.5.2, and it works. That is the
one I would like to get installed in LinuxMint (which now shows 6.3.0
installed).
I do not know if I could have made a mistake in which link I pasted,

download page to third party repositories in synaptic, and synaptic has
done the rest.

Don't worry about linux as most of the issues about formats and decoders
are slimserver related and independent of OS. The main problem is that
some decoders are only available for Intel/x86 processors.
The WMA lossless files can only be decoded using Microsoft libraries
which are only availabl
Moving backwards with version numbers will undoubtedly wreak havoc on
your box. A simple 'apt-get remove...' is pretty non-destructive and
it leaves files and folders such as config files which will most likely
confuse older versions.
Try to remove them as root in a terminal, i.e.:

mplayer does not handl

.ape files either. Am I doing it wrong when I make the adjustments in
