I have a Buffalo HD-HG400LAN that I would like to run slimserver on. I
don't have any Linux knowledge to do the installation myself. Is there
any self install software available for this or is there anyone willing
to install it for me for a fee?

Check that you don't have "Block Incoming Connections" set under Server
Settings/Security.

Seems you are right. Didn't notice and still installed slimserver (also
a 7.0x version though).

So, if one doesn't need journaling on a drive (and why would journaling
be advantageous on a drive that holds only static audio files?) what's
wrong with using ext2 or even ntfs? Other than journaling, what are
the big advantages of ext3 over ext2?

I think 'ext3' is a sensible choice. There's an argument for avoiding
spinning down as it's the starting and stopping that puts all the wear
on the bearin

I seem to be up and running with Ubuntu 7.10 and SC7. My player can
select songs and play but sometimes it reverts to circular menus. I can
use Moose to show the songs but I can not use play from Moose. It is
ignored. My symptoms are;

Just installed beta 5. Although it is back in the WebUI, I am now
getting a a missing icon problem again (and the browser keeps trying to
load the page until I hit stop).
