I'm not sure if it was directed at me but here goes anyway :)
The easiest thing to get you started would most likely be ClarkConnect
(http://www.clarkconnect.com/). This comes with several useful
functions (Like HTTP proxy, a
#cd /usr/ports/audio/squeezecenter && make install clean
:) (I'm sure you've got it sorted by now, but maybe this will help
someone else).

A bit late, but did you get it working? I've been running
SlimServer/SqueezeCenter on FreeBSD since the beginning of 2007 without
a problem. Might be worth replacing slimserver with squeezecenter (v7):
cd /usr/ports/audio/squeezecenter && make install
To start the server daemon manually:

Who are you replying to, Gazjam?
If it's Ubuntu, with all matters Ubuntu, the source is

Just to provide my own little update on all of this, I built a Windows
Home Server after they released the update fixing their corruption
bug.
So far I'm very impressed with it, it is very snappy running Squeeze
Center. Equally nice, building the machine with redundant hard drives,
etc, was only

OK. I was looking at a NAS solution for my Squeezebox Duet (currently
in backorder, should have it soon) when I came across this box.
The idea is to hav

Any of you Linux guys point me in the right direction as to what and
where I could find out?

I installed succesfully the minimal debian etch system on my thin client
T5720 (1gb flash, 512mb ram). After this the install of squeezecenter
went also without problems. But when i restart my device i have to
login again, how can i make the system login automatically?

With that powerful hardware, SC will idle 99.9% of the time.
I'd use Linux and make it do other stuff as well, like SMTP/HTTP proxy,
development platform for PHP/Ruby/whatever.
Install VMware on it and have more systems running on it, the
possibilities are endless :)

Sounds good Gazjam, about the only thing I would reconsider is switching
it off.
There are various schools of thought on whether to run it all the time
or not. I had my last computer fail on bootup, so I agree with the
proponents of the theory that electronics are more prone to failure
when they
Thanks Mark,
I've been thinking actually about the ammount of wasted "grunt" I'd
have in my server, but the cost savings from recycling existing parts
make it worth it.
That said, I was thinking about ways to better use the extra computing
power and heres a reply I gave in the DIY forum to a simi
Thanks, that helps.
I've unpacked faac, faad2 and lame into their own directories.
Faac: has an install file, the readme has no installation
instructions.
Faad2: no install file
Lame: has an install.sh file... no obvious instructions
What now?

Ah, OK. There's code in MySQLHelper.pm that checks the mysql port
setting. If it's been changed to something other than 9092, it assumes
you have your own mysql and won't start it's own. I've never tested
this...

Sorry I should have been clearer. I know the SC deb doesn't install
mysql, but it creates it's own instance to use. I don't want two
instances of mysqld running on my server because the server is
underpowered and running slowly already, also I would like the
slimserver database to show up along wi
The SC deb does not install mysqld - it uses the one on your system. By
default, SC launches it's own instance of your system's mysqld. IMO,
there is little reason to change that.

Hi all,
I already have MySQL installed on my Ubuntu server, and have now
installed SqueezeCenter. I have followed the guide to point
SqueezeCenter at my database instance instead of it's default one
(http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/ExistingMySQLInstance), but how
do I remove the MySQL insta
Let me start by saying I am no expert! My 8GB CF card is split into a

I read somewhere about the number of writes a CF card can handle. It

I think I will give ClarkConnect a try first and see if that makes me
