Hah, I wonder if I could get SC running on my Android G1 phone. ;) I
would have to get an ARM build of perl.
Considering most NAS devices are about as powerful as my G1, That is a
good target. A lot of people want to run SC on NAS devices.
Another target platform would be something like my Soe
This solved a problem I didn't even realize I had. My .m4a playback
worked find under Ubuntu 8.04, but since the 8.10 upgrade a week ago
evidently it stopped working and I hadn't even noticed.
Thanks!

So, this is a slow computer that is at least a decade old. You can't buy
a new computer now, even the cheapest, slowest one available, that is

Ubuntu is a fine choice. I run SqueezeCenter on an old PC for my
parents squeezebox. It's just a P3-500 with 128MB ram. It runs
without a GUI, so it's only a bit slow (uses a tiny bit of swap
regularly). But it's fine via the remote interface. This is probably
the minimum requirement for a de
I believe the PVR-150 (and dual-tuner PVR-500) are still workhorses in
the MythTV world. Check ivtvdriver.org for updates, but I expect it's
still well supported. Probably having an older card is better than a
newer one, as normally the driver support lags a bit behind hardware
vendors' chipset ch
I think the plugin as posted work with Slimserver 6.x - it needs to be
updated to work with current SC version 7.x.
At a low priority, I am working on a similar plugin which handle Tuner
cards (any which use V4L not just Hauppauge PVR's) with standard s/w
(i.e. no need to build special app).

I don't know what you mean by "get all the stuff windows users can get"
Squeezecenter runs great on Ubuntu o
Hi,
What are the chances that the radio tuner card plugin mentioned below
stilm works?

I am considering buying one of the slim devices. I hesitate because
most of the time I listen to local radio. I know that the devices can

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 8.4 to 8.10 keeping Squeezecenter at
7.2.1. Ever since the upgrade I've been getting a segfault notification
in the syslog each time I shutdown Squeezecenter.
Here's the entry in the syslog that keeps appearing:
squeezecenter-s[28789]: segfault at 0 ip 08119053 s
So what you're saying is that I can use the linux version of
squeezecenter on ubuntu and get all the stuff windows users can get and
the performance will be good?

Yes. Which one is a bit of a personal choice.
I use Debian Etch on my music server. Works well on machines that are
too underpowered for Vista.
My number one rule:

I saw on the SS website that you can run Squeezecenter on Linux and I
was wondering if it would run well
Gave it up amd converted everything to MP3s so th eold slimp3 wouldn't
struggle. All works fine now

In the Fedora firewall. I'm not running Fedora right now, but there
should a menu item called Firewall Configuration or something similar.
That will let you either open the necessary ports or just turn it off.

Ok, so dumb question, but
how do I open the ports - do you mean in my router config, or in the
Fedora firewall, if so how do I do that? Given that SELinux is
disabled!
Sorry for my ignorance!

Fedora 9 enables the firewall by default. SC uses the following:
9000/tcp
3483/tcp
3483/udp
Either turn off the firewall or open those ports.
If you installed from the RPM, it should work fine with SELinux
enabled.

BTW, I have now completely disabled SELinux out of desperation. (bad
move? don't care right now!)
I've had trouble on Ubuntu 8.04 (see recent posts by myself), so gave
up and went back to my favourite Fedora (9). All I want is a quick set
up - which for Linux isn't always possible!
Is there a m
I have installed 7.2.1 on Fedora 9, it is up and running with no
apparent problems.
But my Boom cannot find the Squeezecenter, i.e. it connects to my
network but says "No SqueezeCenter Found"
Does anyone have any suggestions? If I need to open ports, which ones
and how?

You hit the nail on the head! The "-x" parameter had to go. I'm
transcoding to mp3 to stream remotely and it just sounded like static
until I removed the "-x".
Now it works fine.
Thank you!
