After all that verbage I added the "users" option for the mount in fstab
instead of default and it seems to be working so far.

The external drive on my CC 4.0 linux laptop crashed so I installed CC
4.3 and SC 7.2.1 and added a new external Maxstor 1tb USB drive
formatted as ext3. I also have a mixed environment with a Macbook and
WinXP machines now. I use "MAX" on the Macbook as my CD ripper and
"Tag" as the metadata tag
