After a new SC install under linux, is the playlist directory the only
one where permissions can be a problem? If not, what other directories
should be checked for proper SC permission to avoid strange behavior.

Attempting to play a Napster WMA stream on my good ol SB1 using the web
interface and Squeezecenter 7.3.3. It appears that the stream is
buffering and playing, however I don't hear a sound. I grabbed the
following portion of the server log - hope it helps.

done. couple hours and 30 packages.
but it didn't help.

Best choice is to install netatalk on the linux server. The macs will
see AFP volumes, they will feel at home. Netatalk is quite easy to
configure.
NFS is also a good choice, but X.5 only. Under X.4, the NFS/Finder
relationship is of the love-hate kind.
Samba is ok, but much slower than AFP on ma

I put together the SqueeceCenter package for Gentoo - sorry you're
having trouble.
Can you try re-emerging Encode::Detect with "emerge -aDvt
dev-perl/Encode-Detect" first and seeing if that helps?
