On my ubuntu 10.04 server box, I just swapped out my 2T ntfs formatted
audio hard disk to a new one with a ext2 file system. I had expected
my whole-library scans to be much faster as I was under the impression
that the ntfs-3g file system driver was a little slow. To my surprise,

Hm. Don't know much about SqueezePlay, other than that it works for me
(although I'm not using it much). Perhaps make a new thread with the
issues you are having with SqueezeP
I was thinking more along the line of: The Radio is connected to
mysqueezebox. But it can also ppick up the stream from my computer. But
as you explained, that doesn't seem to be an option.

of my old routers.

I'm not convinced. If one co
Oh, and by the way. You can play the same music in all rooms with an
Airport Express, but you can't:
-Play different music in some rooms. You can do this with Squeezebox.
-You can't get reliable synchronisation. You can't get this with
Squeezebox softwareplayers either, but you can with all the h
You are right, I would need to boot with the airportexpress. But that
would only be an addition to my SB Radio. And I do obviously know about
mysqueezebox.com -- that is what my Radio is currently running on. BUT.
Choosing that route makes it very annoying to also use the stuff on my
computer beca
The waveinput plugin will pickup anyting your computer is playing. It
can be controlled from SBS (from some/the computer). Are you looking to
use only softwareplayers? Have you tried SqueezePlay - its not
officially supported, but perhaps somewhat more so, than
squeezeslave...

I resurrected this thread as I wondered if anyone had a better method
than mine. I want my no-xwindows/text only server to download from
Linn when I am not there.
I use nohud wget filelist & which gets me the aspx files then I rename
them to FLAC and it works fine. Is there a better way?
Does
It is not so much that I don't like SBS. But I want a way to play the
same music in all the rooms of my apartment and control that from my
computer. And so far I haven't found a good software client that picks
up whatever SBS is playing.
My other issue is that I don't want to boot my computer ju
Thats an option. One of the points with the SB is that you can operate
it from the player side (like an old CDP), and you could hide the
server in the garage or whatever. Thats not as such the way an Aiport
Express work. Of course, nowadays everybody are controlling everything
with iThingies...

That's disappointing. But thanks for your help. I guess I'll get me an
airportexpress then.

I sort of understand where you are coming from - and its simply not the
way the Squeezebox-systems work.

You are missing the fact that the players such as the radio are not
designed to connect directly to external sources, be it filesystems or
other URI's - thats the task of SBS. A player without server is by
design nothing but a brick.

O.k. you know probably better. But I still think it is a bit weird. All
I am asking for is that the Radio picks up a stream. The only
difference to a webradio should be that this stream is broadcasted in
my local network and not on the internet. Or am I missing something?

Btw the waveinput plugin is a plugin for SBS...

Well here is a convincing argument - *none* of the Squeezeboxes work
without the server. SBS, mysqueezebox.com and the scaled down version
in the SB Touch are the *only* ones that quality as servers.

Thanks, I will look into it. But I guess my main issue remains - I don't
want to run the Squeezebox Server because I am not convinced it is that
useful. Especially since the local clients for the Server that I tried
- for example Squeezeslave - were buggy and tended to crash. My
computer is connec
Not the way SB is designed to work so solutions are a bit awkward. Why
do you want to dó it this way? Have a look at the wavinput plugin - it
forwards all audio from the server machine.

Hi,
is there any way to directly stream from a Linux music player
(preferably Rhythmbox/Banshee) to my Squeezebox radio? I know about the
Squeezebox Server, it works o.k., but I prefer to have my Radio coupled
with the webserver (so I don't have to boot my pc every time).

I sucessfully installed UNRE on a USB stick this morning and formated my
hard drive in FAT32. I can't however see my disk within SBS. I had the
same problem before and solved it by editing fstab. Unfortunately I
forgot what my entry should be. Could you please copy the fstab entry
