Did an upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 and once I installed 7.9, all was
working again.

For those wanting to disable Pi3 WIFI and BT, you need to "blacklist
brcmfmac" driver (via /etc/modprobe.d conf file) for

installing 7.9 on Wheezy, which works fine.
(Now all I have to do is figure out how to reinstall MusicIP, which I
had hoped never to have to do again after the sweat, blood and tears it
cost me last time!)

song there is a bit of pop/crackle sound before the next song starts.

I've just had to rebuild my Linux box, and I've installed Jessie + LMS
7.8.1. When I start the LMS service, the log shows it dies and restarts
repeatedly.
Try 7.9 instead.

You can disable it via ssh.By adding dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt. To
the boot config. That will be default in the next release.and the
drivers are patched too.

Specifically what the OP was refering to, *RPi3/Digi+* combination.
I had a problem with playback using this combination, but I swapped my
Digi+ to a DAC+ on my RPi3,
