I think this indicates an issue on your network.
piCorePlayer uses DHCP to determine the gateway on your network. This
gateway normally should have internet access.
So something is misconfigured or blocked.

Help please - my PiCorePlayer can't seem to connect to the repositories.
As an example, when I try installing the LMS, I get:

Samba is for external connections. You do not need that for LMS.
Just mount the USB drive.

1000 sockets in two months would have been more than 15 sockets per day,
but right now, everything is quiet. The LMS has 39 open file handles in
total, of which 15 are sockets. That number has increased by one since I
am watching it (which was before I started logging).

Looking fo help. I've managed to get a WaveShare 3.5" RPi LCD (B) Ev 2.0
working on Rasp 4B running PiCorePLayer 6.1.0 (after many attempts!)
It's working, the touch works, but the colours are inverted (negative).
Can any-one help please?

I made an attempt to cleanup my repo and update the lms packages to make
sure they work on the latest 3.14 release of alpine. Currently lms* in
the armhf and armel repos are incomplete/broken and I'm not sure when or
if I'll fix them. The following three arch's should be ok to use:
