and then change the owner of the plugin to squeezecenter

Hi,
Try this, add the line:
export LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
to the /etc/init.d/squeezecenter script after the comment lines and
save.
I think this may be a start order thing because if squeezecenter is
restarted manually it is ok.

server.log has stopped growing in length.

I believe you need to put the complete "Alien" directory in
"usr/share/squeezecenter/Plugins" and restart squeezecente

Have you activated all the Ubuntu repo's in the
"/etc/apt/sources.list"?
Do you get error messages when you "sudo apt-get install
squeezecenter"?

This is the repo for 7.0:
deb http://debian.slimdevices.com stable main
To fully remove slimserver: sudo apt-get --purge remove slimserver
Also any plugins will require upgrading.

resorted to removing the file and rebuilding it, not elegant, but not
too bad if the analysis is saved in the metadata.
On my box I am now able to use the browse library option.

Almost certainly file permissions, user "slimserver" requires read/write
permission for the playlist. You will probably find one is owned by you
and the other that does play is owned by slimserver.

Your receiver may just require some start up time, have a look at
player settings > audio > audio start up time.

I'm not sure about your dependency probs but I would do a --purge remove
slimserver then an install as there have been big changes between 6.3
and 6.5.

tories and playlist directories. they have to be "chmod"ed.
My setup is running ok with Alien and MPlayer from source, the only
thing i miss is Music magic.
