You can still use the web interface even though the server is running on
another PC. Think of squeezeplay as making your computer work like
squeezebox hardware. The squeezebox hardware is separate from the
server - it's a true client server setup.

Thanks maggior, that works fine. I removed LMS from the Win 7 PC and I
have it nearly as I wanted it. I prefer the LMS web page to Squeezeplay
interface but it still has virtually the same functionality

You don't need to run lms on both machines. You can run lms on the
linux machine and just grab the windows version of squeezeplay to run on
the window machine.
In this configuration, you would only need samba setup so that you can
manage/organize your music files with your windows PC.
