Ok, in reality while the box reads the now playing, the server keeps
restarting the song about every 10 seconds (I guess it is not getting
the response from the box it wants). I can browse all of my music from
the squeezebox. Everything works as advertised from my XP server. :(

Problem seems to be that I am running ver 6.2.1 and not 6.5.1. Every
time I try to update I get 404 errors:
Failed to fetch
http://debian.slimdevices.com/dists/unstable/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz
404 not found
Any ideas?

Oh, and for your original problem: check firewall settings. Many linux
distributions turn on firewalls that break servers (like, well,
Slimserver).

Thanks snarlydwarf, I finally got it. I stupidly had the multiverse
lines uncommented, so I could not get the proper path to the update
6.5.1. I now have the update running, and no problems!
