Are you trying to stream from the same PC or to another PC? In your
music player (anything but WMP) choose "open URL" or some such option.
Type in "http://your-server-ip:9000/stream.mp3";. Say OK and hit play.
Nothing will start yet. What this does is connects to the server and
alerts it there is
I was able to obtain my IP address by using ipconfig. Still not able to
get slimserver to stream to my PC, though. But I'm working on it.

When streaming on a local network you're typically looking for your
192.168.*.* address. Win2000/XP/Vista is Start, Run, CMD, ipconfig.
98/ME is Start, Run, winipcfg. Linux is "ifconfig" in a terminal. I
think Mac OS X is the same.
If you want to stream over the internet to a remote location it
okay did a search (the search function wasn't working a bit ago) and
found how to determine my PC's IP address using ipconfig from the
command line. I'll try streaming to my PC now.

I am also unable to get slimserver to stream to my PC. I think my
problem is that I don't know how to determine my PC's IP address. Can
someone tell me how to do this? I'm sure I should be in the Beginner's
forum.
Thx

Slimserver does it. Just for grins, let's go through the process:

Does Slimserver show that you have a player connected? After hitting
"play" give your server about 30 seconds (just to be safe), and check
the list of players. What client are you using? I do it effortlessly
with XMMS. Winamp should work fine too. Haven't tried SoftSqueeze
across the internet.

Nope. I've tried using another PC on a gigabit LAN to my server.

This is not an internet or firewall problem. As I said, I can connect
remotely to the slimserver just fine via port 9000. It's just that no
music comes out and no song info is displayed.
And this has nothing to do with my Squeezebox, which is working just
fine.
So what does it have

I did a port forward on my router and it works fine. Have you opened
9000? Also, on your player/squeezebox make sure to hit the play button
so the server recognized it's attached. Then you'll be able to add
songs to it's playlist.
