Ok - got it working. Thanks dropbear for pointing out pfarrell's tip
list. And thanks pfarrell for writing it. Looks like AlienBBC already
sets up a slimserver-convert.conf file that uses mplayer to transcode
the wma. My only problem was that there are two sets of configurations
in the AlienBBC sl
using the information at Pat's web site I was able to play wma files on
my linux box - http://www.pfarrell.com/music/slimserver/tips.html
and about half way down the page is the subject 'wma and slim'.
