Have you tried rip frm morituri ? It looks very promising and it would
fit very well in a headless server. I will bring this up at the vortex
forums.

I got it installed very easily using an external CD-drive via usb.
Overall my fear that vortexbox would be complicated was put to shame. My
only difficulties was
1) That the ethernet connection apparently does not work if you use a
broken ethernet cable (doh!)
2) The auto-ripper by default rips

I'm running VB software on a FIT-PC2 which does not have an optical

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will give vortexbox a try. Only
problem is the Aspire Revo does not have a CD-drive, but I guess I can
use external one.

Hi,
just get 'Ubuntu' (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server) - i prefer the
Server Version.
The only thing to know is - always use a LTS (Longterm Support)
Version.
Be aware that Ubuntu 13 had a newer perl Version thats not supported by
LMS - So 12.04 LTS (equal if server or not) its the "best"
I did read a little about that. It seems pretty cool. I like the
Auto-ripping thing, I might get an external drive to so I can use that.
However, I got that sense that vortexbox quite a lot of work to deal
with and get set up right. Would you say that is wrong?
I've never personally set one up.

Good point, I guess if I am running it headless lubuntu will not make a
difference from regular Ubuntu.

There's vortexbox - which is a Fedora based distribution which comes
with LMS and everything else you need pre-installed.

For just hosting a server there real
I have gotten my hands on an old (but free) Asus Aspire Revo 3600. I
plan to put some type of linux on it (it comes with no OS) and use it to
host my LMS server. Previously I have mostly just used my Squeezebox (I
have a Touch now, but I am adding a Radio soon) via mysb.com, so this is
