Oh good grief. It was just that simple.
Restarting Slimserver cleared the problem.
I need to keep notes:
1. Boot Linux
2. /etc/ppp/peers/sprint # start ppp connection with cellphone
company
3. /etc/init.d/rc.firewall
4. /etc/init.d/slimserver start
Any other order results in a fail
