I just ran into this problem today, exactly as described above. I don't
normally listen at the server (Linux), but tonight was an
office-cleaning night. I was very frustrated at this, but your
suggestion fixed it right away.
Thanks a lot!

I had all of the symptoms that you described. I fixed it by selecting
"Java Sound Audio Engine" as softsqueeze's audio mixer.

Erland,
Yes, I can change tracks without any problem, at any time. It really
does seem to be working fine for me. I will look at my system further
to see what might be allowing it to work...
Ok - this is a little weird, when I right-click on the Softsqueeze
shortcut icon on my desktop, I get the
It looks like squeezeslave might be a nice, lightweight alternative, and
it looks like it might be viable again:

SoftSqueeze has been playing continuously for the past 16 hours on my
Ubuntu 7.04 machine now, without a hiccup - so it is possible to make
it work!
Maybe I am just lucky - as I know very little about Linux.

Reading this thread, I remember doing two more things that might have
helped make it work on my Ubuntu machine:
1. I commented out the normal "127.0.1.1 Ron-ubuntu" line in my
/etc/hosts file, and replaced it with "127.0.0.1 localhost Ron-ubuntu"
- I put the host name after localhost.
2. I disab
One other 'feature' is that if I'm playing say track 8 of an album, then
click 'previous track' three times, Softsqueeze will stop responding to
buttons (and after a short while stop playing), but when I relaunch it,
it will play from track 5 (as though Slimserver got the requests for
'previous tr
I too am using Ubuntu 7.04 and have not had Softsqueeze working
correctly ever since I first tried it on the Feisty beta.
I have disabled all the IPv6 stuff as suggested in another thread and
have 'downgraded' to running it on java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.11.
Currently:

Just tried it again. It now freezes at the splash screen and crashes
gracefully.
If I try it as a web applet though, it crashes Firefox.

Erland,
Your problem might be different than what mine was. SoftSqueeze would
hang on me at any time, usually within two minutes of the first song I
tried to play. The progress timer would not be incrementing correctly,
and then the song would stop, and the SoftSqueeze screen would freeze

I had this problem too.
I am running Ubuntu 7.04, and the Java 6 JRE versions would not work.
What finally did work for me was to install the Java 1.5.0_11 JRE,
Softsqueeze version 3.4, and Slimserver 6.5.3.
I have it running now, as I write this.

Same here on Ubuntu 7.04, SS 6.5.1 and Java 5. I thought it was the
Java version but I see you have problems with 6 as well.
I get a screen that looks like the SoftSqueeze window, but there's
nothing in the window and I have to kill the process to get rid of it.
Interestingly, it worked just fi
Yep, not much help, but I too get the network connection failed message
on Kubuntu 7.04 connecting to slimserver on cc4.

Does anyone else have problems with SoftSqueeze on Linux ?
The problem I'm having is that SoftSqueeze totally hangs pretty often
when playling FLAC songs, sometimes also with MP3. The hang often occur
when I change to play another track. When it has hung, I can shutdown
SoftSqueeze and restart it
