you should be Ok with upgrades at present, however, I think the next
version isn't too far away. If it worries you the nagging just disable
the repository until there is a new version. Alternatively change the
rep back to stable and it will go away until the new production version
is out.

I managed to get this to work by using the testing stream of sbs.
Can't remember exactly where I got the instructions but I'm guessing
that you've done most of the same google searches that I did! :-)
only problem I have now is that sbs wants to upgrade and I'm not sure
that I want
I can't get the "testing" version (7.4.2) to work. The server.log file
has the following error repeated multiple times, hence my desire to try

If I install the beta version of SBS then I get a "can't connect to
database" error. But I can't install the released version since I hit
