Thanks for off of your help. I tried and tried. Learned way much more
than I ever wanted to know about Linux. Gave up and installed it onto
the flash drive of the T5720 - AND IT STILL DIDN'T Work!. So took the
hd, put it into another pc - and guess what - it was the HD that was
corrupted. I just h
One more thought - the SliMP3 was from 2001. Is it able to support VBR
encoded MP3s? Back then, I think it was more common to use CBR and I
remember a lot of issues with players not understanding both formats.
Is Squeezecenter constantly firing lame to decode and recode your VBR
mp3s into CBR m
Have you tried top? Type top in a terminal window. You should then see
all the processes and how much space and cpu they are taking. You can
sort it by CPU or memory. It dynamically adjusts to the current usage.
(btw, if you don't see lame on the list, then it's not transcoding. if
you do, it

I had it set that way originally and changed it when problems

swap space used.
Again, the only thing I

Why are you bitrate limiting? If the source files are mp3 the slimp3
should play without transcoding. You'd save a ton of CPU and some
memory too.

Hi Katherine,
is that 98% swap free or used? if you've running out of swap space
things can get a bit strange.
Did you disable the linux services you're not using ? (this may free up
some memory)

There are so many logs I am never sure which to set for debug.
But setting adv->server set logs->apply the logs server.log and
perfmon.log are empty.
using the system monitor i read cpu between 50 and 65% sometime up to
75% - but the peak is not when the music goes wobbly.
Memory 71%, Swap 98.5%
Anything in the SC logs?

I may be trying the impossible, but I really want it to work. You may
recall previously I said I had successfully installed
linux/squeezecenter on a pendrive and was running it off a thin client
hpt5720. Well almost!
It works fine for radio etc but if i tried to play music - very
weird things
