The Operations Department for BestBuy.com is responsible for three
different areas:

   1. Site Reliability
   2. Release/Change Management
   3. Infrastructure / Deployments

Our group is a growing team that manages the BestBuy.com Infrastructure and
Monitoring tools in the public cloud.



*Project Description:*

BestBuy.com Operations is looking for an experienced Splunk Administrator
to help manage our distributed Splunk setup.  This position will solely
focus on ensuring Splunk is operating efficiently.  Tasks will include:

   - Upgrading Splunk whenever there is a new release.
   - Setting up Splunk Forwarding for new application tiers introduced into
   the environment
   - Identifying bad searches/dashboards and partnering with the creators
   to improve performance
   - Optimizing the Splunk setup
   - Creating new Splunk Applications / Dashboards



*Responsibilities/Deliverables that the resource will be responsible for:*

The same as the project description:

   - Upgrading Splunk whenever there is a new release.
   - Setting up Splunk Forwarding for new application tiers introduced into
   the environment
   - Identifying bad searches/dashboards and partnering with the creators
   to improve performance
   - Optimizing the Splunk setup
   - Creating new Splunk Applications / Dashboards



*What would a normal day for this position look like??*

This is a brand new position on our team.  We envision the daily work to
look like the following:

   - Creating/Testing/Deploying Splunk upgrades, configurations changes,
   etc. in multiple environments
   - Monitoring the Splunk infrastructure (Identify bad searches,
   dashboards, overall health of Splunk).
   - Partnering with Splunk users and answering any questions they have
   around Splunk (Creating Dashboards, Saved Searches, Alerts, etc).
   - Creating new Splunk dashboards / applications for the Operations team



*What are the MUST have skills that you are looking for in a candidate?*

   1. 3 + years managing a large distributed Splunk environment
   2. 3+ years of experience with general systems administration in a Linux
   environment
   3. 3+ years of experience with scripting languages (Ruby, Python, etc)
   4. 3+ years of experience with Git or SVN
   5. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
   6. Good verbal and written communication
   7. Experience working in a fast-paced large environment with many moving
   pieces
   8. Self Starter – Ability to work without supervision
   9. Nice To Have: Experience with configuration management tools
   (Chef/Puppet)
   10. Nice To Have: Public Cloud Experience
