Servers are located within the Partners Data Centers (Needham and Marlboro). The Open Systems Server Engineer I is responsible for installation, operation, administration and maintenance of IBM AIX, SUN Solaris, Red Hat Linux and HP-UX servers. Evaluates and monitors server operations. Troubleshoots and resolves server problems. Recommends and implements system modifications, OS and hardware upgrades. Analyzes the results of server monitoring and recommends changes to improve performance (tuning). Proposes, maintains and enforces server policies, practices and security procedures. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation. 1. Performance monitoring and tuning. 2. Technical support and trouble-shooting of servers. 3. Problem analysis and recovery. 4. Technical consultation and outlining requirements on projects. 5. Design, test, certify and document new systems. 6. Recommend server configurations based on clients’ requirements. Qualifications (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential function of the job). • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience • Certification in multiple operating systems: IBM AIX, SUN Solaris, Red Hat Linux or HP-UX. • 5+ years I/T experience as a system administrator or systems manager in an IBM AIX, SUN Solaris, Red Hat Linux or HP-UX environment; or equivalent combination of education/work experience. Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential function of the job). • Strong commitment to customer service. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Excellent reasoning and analytic skills in a time critical/mission critical problem solving operation. • Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements. • Strong experience with the following: SUN Solaris small to midrange servers with Solaris 9 and 10. • Strong experience with the following: SUN Cluster and Solaris Zones – support and configuration. • Experience with scripting tools (Shell, Perl). • Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux – building and patching servers. • Knowledge of Network topology. • Knowledge of SAN (EMC) is a plus.
