Hi Colin,
It’s nice to know they have set up a nice way of handling things.
Two questions come to mind though:
1. Can hackers get around the method they are using?
2. Should we really believe that they are doing what they
say they are doing, or are they really listening all the
time, an
I frequently get targeted ads after just having off-line conversations.
They ARE listening!

I was at Google for meetings last week, some of which was with the Google Home
and also Assistant teams. They have the same need as Siri, and I imagine that
they solve the problem in the same way. For Google, they are always listening
for “ok google”, and Apple are listening for “hey Siri”. It’s
If Apple was doing data collection via Siri always on and feeding the data to
Amazon, that would be a huge news story. Americans would FREAK OUT!

Perhaps you dreamed of Jeannie ;-) Was she there?
(The NBC series was very popular in Germany, also in the 90's).

I would need to look, but I recall Apple making a big deal about Siri doing
the wake up completely on device and not transmitting anything unless
actually doing a query. This was around the time the 6 or 6S came out with
the always listening option. (Of course I do occasionally wake her up

I suspect that may be the reason. I've heard (well, misheard) pretty
weird stuff when I've been unwell enough to be bed-ridden. :)

If anyone by happenstance caught me on camera after a shower, I'm sure they

Who doesn't? I had mine on for so long that when I was a speaker at RR Global I
had a heck of a time getting it off and cleaning the lenses. I also cover all
mobile devices front facing camera. I keep the back facing one open
My only contact with Alexa was at Christmas, 2 yrs ago. I don’t activate “hey,
Siri” on any of my devices. I’ll have to check my Kindle Fire, tho but I’m
pretty sure I didn’t turn it on.
I’ll update this group if I find anything interesting.

Bob,
No I don’t. But this did get me thinking about the spyware developed to listen
in on people’s smart phone microphone without the owner being logged in.
Especially by intelligence agencies, but who would be interested in a retire
Santa Barbara faculty member. I will get on bitdefender’s list

Bill,
Usually my code look the same as this when I am awake from a hangover… ;-)

Folks,
Autocorrect foiled me again! I meant to say:
I wonder if any of you have had this happen to you?
With hackers able to listen in on locked phones, I wonder.

I wonder if any of journalists had this happen to you.
Admittedly, I was laying sick in bed at the time. I clearly and distinctly
heard my iPhone or iPad say “Alibaba”. Could this be either 1) an alien from
outer space, 2) some nefarious plot by that Chinese version of Amazon, 3)or
worse?
