Well, thanks to all for the help. I finally figured out what I was
looking for. I can achieve the result I'm looking for by setting the
lineHeight of the button. Unfortunately, when it comes to menus, it
affects the height of the menuItems as well, so it's now of no use to me
at all.

It does not seem like a hack to me. The "right" way to raise the height of
a line of type within a pre-defined area was to put a strip of metal below
and remove a corresponding strip from above (and vice versa). Adjusting the
