Which version of Accumulo are you seeing these files in?
They should be getting cleaned up automatically after
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ACCUMULO-1452 was added to 1.4.5,
1.5.1, and 1.6.0.

What purpose does the .rf_tmp file on hdfs serve? Its often 0kb size and
there appear to be a lot of these older than the table ageoff filter.
Can we safely remove these?
