Thanks to David Crossley for the reply. I'm making some progress using
his suggestions. The first part of this post describes the steps I've
taken so far. I post them here for comments and corrections as I plan
to document what I learn here and add it to the Forrest wiki.

Hi Folks,
I'm trying to sort out where Forrest ends and Cocoon begins with regard
to sitemaps. As best I can tell, the only two sets of sitemaps that are

first) and the forrest-home sitemaps (these are processed only if

Hi folks,
I'm trying to locate some documentation that explains how to pull xml
data from Xindice into Forrest. Thanks very much.

Hi Folks,
I've successfully converted my XML to the xdocs DTD but I'm a little
confused about the next step in generating my site. I added the files
to site.xml in the following manner:
And put the actual files in the xdocs directory but when I do 'forrest'
it tells me that there is no pipel

Hi Folks,
I'm writing a stylesheet to convert my XML to Forrest xdoc. Can anyone
point me towards the location of the top-level xdoc DTD or of a sample
of an xdoc? Thanks very much.

I plan to use Forrest only to create new pubs or port existing pubs.

Hi Ross
Thanks for getting back to me. Answers are as follows:

Existing publications are simply stored as files on my network drive.
In general, they are fairly typical word processor/html editor outputs.

I converted the ab
My company is planning the following implementation:
1)Port existing publications to Forrest. Current publications are xml
files with xsl stylesheets for browser presentation, plus javascript
menus, and a few other scripts.
2)Generate new publications using Forrest.
3)Maintain all publications
That fixed it. Thanks for the quick response.

Just for fun, I also downloaded forrest 0.6. I am able to get this to
run as a stand alone site and as a webapp although I get a build failed
message when I do 'forrest' in the home directory.

Okay. I went back to http://forrest.apache.org/mirrors.cgi and
downloaded the current stable version from the mirror
apache.roweboat.net. I followed the instructions found in the
index.html file in the home directory and got the same result. Do I need
to copy a properties file into Cocoon or some
It came from the mirror ftp.wayne.edu but I'll try again. The zip
archive is labeled: apache-forrest-0.7.
