Hello HBase folks,
- Looking to upgrade from Hortonworks HDP 2.1(Hadoop 2.4.0) to HDP 2.2.
(Hadoop 2.6.0)
- HBase version changes from 0.98.0 to 0.98.4
Are there any special steps involved for the HBase upgrade itself? From the
Hortonworks doc, I did not see specific step for this - other than

Subject: HBase Upgrade from 0.94.x to 0.98.x: How to do rollback?
Hi,
We are proposing upgrade solution to one of our customers.
Current Version: Hadoop 2.0.1+Hbase 0
are external.
Main requirement is that customer wants to rollback to old version in case of
any failures during the upgrade.
HDFS provides rollback option. HBase has no rollback option. To overcome this,
I am thinking of running HBase upgrade under hdfs -upgrade step.
Detailed steps are given
Yes, I am using hbase to manage zookeeper ensemble.
Zookeeper logs does not show any issues. I can see HQuorumPeer running (just
have one node in the ensemble)

I am using 0.94.6.1 so i will be able to rolling upgrade to 0.94.8.
As you said that clients and servers calls between HBase minor releases are
supposed to be compatible. So there should not be any issue for rolling
upgrades between HBase minor releases.
Will it be possible to rolling upgrade fr

Hi Hanish,
Are you using 0.94.6? Or 0.94.6.1?
There was some issues on 0.94.6 with the rolling restart I think.
If you are using 0.94.6.1 there should not be any issue.
And you are right, there is no API changes. It's compatible.

Hi Jean-Marc,
So I can assume that
Rolling upgrade of all nodes from 0.94.6 to 0.94.8 will not cause any data
inconsistency.
Also there will no java api changes between HBase minor releases
Am i right?

Hi Hanish,
Clients and servers calls between HBase minor releases are supposed to
be compatible.
If you want to upgrade all your nodes from 0.94.6 to 0.94.8 (or 0.94.9
if you wait few days) simply deploy the new jars and do a
rolling-restart

Hi All,
I am using HBase in distributed mode. A number of master and regionserver
nodes are running on different machines.
Now i want to upgrade HBase version to recent stable release.
My main purpose is to upgrade HBase without shutting down whole cluster.
I want to know if on one machine i up

Otherwise help will be sparse.

Hey,
Could anyone give me suggestion for Hadoop/HBase upgrade? We're
currently using apache hadoop 0.20.2 + hbase 0.20.3 + zookeeper-3.2.2.
Has anyone done with latest stable version of hadoop-0.20.203.0rc1 +
