do you mean products with the term items? Or simply the number of data rows?
Generally, OFBiz can handle millions of data rows very well if
everything is setup with production settings and a reasonable amount of
memory on the server.

Does anyone know if the Ofbiz catalog can handle 5 million items? If so
are there areas that would be a performance concern or is this as simple
as throwing more hardware at it?
