Thanks for your reply. From the details of the issue, it seems more related
to a hang in the Shell bolt. That is not the exact same symptom as what we
observed. Specifically we did not see a hang, but a NullPointerException in
the log. Please let me know if you think they are related.

We are using Storm 0.9.3. We have a topology running a Shell bolt that
launches a Python process. After running for 3-4 hours, we saw this
exception on one of the worker nodes:
