By the way, I usually drag&drop the knife tool into the bar above it, and I do this for every tool folder and save this as startup. Works for me.

I've tried Robert's solution but as far as I can tell only the "tool
bar" is editable, and the tools in question are on the "tool control
bar". When I do "customize" I can't find anything relating to the sds
tools (loop etc that live on the right) to drag around.Might be
