thank you for the RUN_AS_USER hint!
that's what I was feeling was missing :-)
while if I symlink it I fear that chkconfig --add will not work.

Given what you have below, you might prefer to symlink the bin file to to
/etc/init.d/archiva rather than having a wrapper script.
