I'd like to use an XML Database to store technical data.
It should be an free and open source database.
Do you know which DBs i could be interested in ?

if a native XML database is what you're looking for, you might want to look
into eXist:
http://exist.sourceforge.net/
It comes with a Cocoon subset, but can also be integrated with a full Cocoon
(see eXist as Cocoon block on the project frontpage (link above).

Why not try eXist - see:
http://exist.sourceforge.net/
They note that a version already ships with Cocoon but point
out you can upgrade it (see eXist as Cocoon block)
There are also 3rd party editing tools:
