Maybe a missing RPATH. Which specific program had the problem from the
pkgsrc packages (since there are a lot of xfce packages and programs)?
(Run objdump -x on it.)
As for the ./configure error, have a look at the config.log to see the
problem why the compiler is unable to create executables.

If you can't get cdrecord to work then try using burncd (man burncd).
It's part of the base distribution. I actually like burncd better.
It's less complex and more understandable. Here's an example use:
burncd -s 4 -f /dev/acd0c data dfly.iso fixate
