I have some questions about multimedia and desktop:
1) How can I to able sound in DragonFly?
2) How can I to able screesaver in X (especially
Fluxbox)?
3) How can I set backgrounds (wallpapers) in fluxbox?
4) How can I try automatically gkrellm and other tools
over Fluxbox in DragonFly?
Thanks,
hello to everyone,
there are plans to change the filesystem hierarchy to simplify the
programs management?
I've saw the gobolinux project (www.gobolinux.org). They have change
the filesystem, and they are using the filesystem as a package
manager.
I'm an university student, and as a school

Right. Or you can load *everything*, by doing kldload snd or by
inserting snd_load=YES, if this flies
The following is my audio card (from pciconf -lv):

In your .xinitrc or .startx file - whichever you use:
xscreensaver
before your line that starts fluxbox. You need to install xscreensaver
from pkgsrc. 'xscreensaver-demo'

Excuse for my stupid questions, but what I must write

As Yury wrote before, try 'kldload snd' from the prompt to see if your
card is detected. If yes, put snd_load=YES in /boot/loader.conf

So, you do *not* mean the well-known wrappers tricks (LD_LIBRARY_PATH
etc.) made into system policy?

4) How can I try automatically gkrellm and other

Install them from pkgsrc and then run them? There
may be something to your question I'm missing.
I've installed gkrellm from pkgsrc, and I tried typing
1) /usr/pkg/bin/gkrellm
2) /usr/pkg/bin/gkrellm
3) exec
...and then look into /var/log/messages to try to figure out what
*exactly* worked. Then you may narrow it down to snd_..._load.

I must create /boot/loader.conf, because that file
don't exist.
#ls /boot loader*

loader.rc

There's a /boot/defaults folder that holds an example loader.conf file;

This idea isn't new at all.

Yes, you must.

I've installed gkrellm from pkgsrc, and I tried typing
1) /usr/pkg/bin/gkrellm
2) /usr/pkg/bin/gkrellm
3) exec /usr/pkg/bin/gkrellm
in .xinitrc and in init files, but it don't appears at
boot of fluxbox.
Just run it from an xterm. What happens then?

At the moment we have no plans to integrate package management
directly into the filesystem layer. We do have tools already
available (varsyms) to make this possible, and pkgsrc makes things
easier by installing into /usr/pkg, leaving /usr/local available

I strongly favor using the power-saving DPMS feature of your
monitor instead of using xscreensaver. DPMS will save power
by blanking the screen and it
