I found adobe scout really useful to find performance issues, pretty easy to
see where the frame time is going over.
You could try and put sections of code into workers?

Will give it a try.

Hi Mark
thank you for your answer
Scout is a great idea, I'll loo into it.
I'm glad you suggested workers as this is a good opportunity to find out if
they can help in these sort of tasks...
I'm under the impression that workers were created to offload heavy
processing that can run asyncroneously
I cleared the internet explorer cache. No go. Still hangs in the same place.
I would REALLY REALLY like to use Flex on this computer. Please continue to
think about this, guys. I am screwed if I can't install Flex.
Alternatively, is there some way to install Flex manually? Before trying

Progress! I cleared the Firefox cache in addition to the IE cache, and
maybe did a couple other things too (lost track of it because I was
multitasking on a few other jobs), and the Flex installation just completed.

I found maxVerticalPosition on Scroller but it is marked private. there is
probably a good reason for it.

if you're seeing freezing it means you're most likely stuck in a loop
somewhere in your code possibly parsing results from the server or that you
or a component is calling validate now and not using phased instantiation.
the flex framework prevents most of this sort of thing by default.

When I installed Flash Builder on another computer, along with it came a
standalone SWF player/debugger. On this new computer, I don't want to
install Flash Builder. Where can I get this standalone player? (I don't
have access to my other computer right now; I'm traveling.)

Yes, I'm aware of this page, but what do I download? I don't see anything
clearly labeled the standalone debug player. The closest thing is the Flash
projector but that seems to be about creating EXE files, and I'm looking
for something that runs SWF files. I also don't need an archived version;
download the zip file at

Player archives

unzip and extract a player with sa in the filename

Or go here [1] and get projector content debugger.
