I think there is probably a problem with LO3.3 as the backed up version
of my spreadsheet works perfectly well in both Oo3.2 and Excel. It is
only when I try to open it in Lo3.3 that I have a problem.
Also when I try to reference a cell from a different file even though I
have both files open

OpenOffice and LibreOffice use absolute paths
='file:///C:/Source.ods'#$Sheet1.B2
while Excel uses relative paths
=[Source.xls]Sheet1!$B$2
This means that in Excel as long as the files are on the same folder or in
the same relative folder, the references will work

This is not correct. OOo/LO show an absolute path. But you can choose it
to be absolute or relative:
Tools > Options > Load/save > General, section
I have four comments on relative paths in OOo/LO:
1) It doesn't work. I changed to relative paths, created a new file with a
relative path, moved both files (source and reference) to another drive and
it kept looking for the file in the original location
2) It doesn't make any sense to save a pa

Icons are beautiful even as said Florian on twitter. I installed it on
the stable version and the update was automatic. All the extensions have
been preserved and an icon LibreOffice was installed on the Gnome panel.
So far had no problems. I'll continue testing.

I just did a test here (Debian squeeze-LibO 3.3.1). I downloaded a file.
pps from Internet and asked to open instead of downloading. The
LibreOffice opened the file correctly starting the display
automatically. But when you click on the esc key Libo closed everything.
