Have you added your new style to the TOC?
Right-click on the TOC. Select "Edit Index".
If "Protected against manual changes" is checked, you will have to
uncheck it, OK and re-edit the TOC.
Select the "Type" tab if not already shown. Down under "Create from",
check "Additional Styles"
