Before I joined this email list, I had done all of that. In fact, when I uninstalled jre-1.7, I also removed jre-1.6 because libreoffice chose jre-1.6 rather than jre-1.7 when the two jre's were on the machine at the same time. Those were suggestions I got from the nvda-support list
