As far as I can tell Libreoffice is available from TDF at this link.

The charge is only if you acquire it through the MAC App store. I
believe all you forego getting it directly from TDF is automated updates
via the App store.

How was the document created in LibreOffice saved? It you are in the
habit of storing all your documents as PDF files then this would be
expected.
