I have a recent install on LO 3.5 into W7. I have just installed the latest
Java which is detected ok. When I select
Options->Internet-> MediaWiki I get a dialog box JRE is Defective - I don't
actuall need this function but wanted to test out Jave compatability
quickly.

I have been a happy user of LO for a long time but have just started to
explore Base.
I have been unable to get Base to work with the latest JRE on Windows Vista
or on W7. When I select this version in the Java options it fails to
recognise that it is a valid JRE.

I believe I originally posted the original problem.
Linking alternative heading styles to Heading 1, 2 etc partially works. You
can set the numbering styles to do what you want.
The problem is that when you do this it creates two numbering levels for no
rational reason.

Hi :)
I prefer the GPL and similar copyleft licences because even tho you still
get no money it is still theoretically possible to sell Cds and stuff with
the software on it. More importantly if someone uses your code they can't
suddenly re-licence it and block you from using your own work anywhe
I do believe in reading documentation! It is an area where LO is generally
quite good but still has some gaps and I find experimentation is necessary.
Tables of contents seem to be very straightforward so far. I will be
preparing a simple guide for a talk early January on an introduction to
styles
Yes - I will have to explore workarounds. I have not looked at Table of
Contents yet but am adept with MS Word and LO usually does similar things. I
do not foresee a problem there (but then I did not see a problem with
Headings, it seemed so intuitive )
The Headings issue is the only case I have f
I agree that using the standard headings and customising inbuilt outline
numbering style will work. What it will not do however is to allow a
separate numbering style for special sections such as appendices, or with
some documents a set of annexes, each containing their own appendices.

I am trying to create headings using a Custom List to define the heading
format. This is not working. It should be trivial.
What I am doing is the create a Custom List using Outline and making the
levels on the left margin - e.g. "Doc Headings2

1.1. Heading 2

I have a presentation that was prepared in Powerpoint 2007. When I used LO

the left. Some bullets are also rendered as Japanese / Chinese characters.

Thanks for the response - I had a quick test yesterday with 3.4.2 RC2 and
believe that the problem has been solved.
There is however now a problem with compatibility with office 2007. The
document reports error when transferring between the two programs. Office

I could fix THIS spreadheet using a replace function as there is only one
such name used.
I have other spreadheets however where there are typically about 12 names
defined in this way. The names are accesed in formulae across many tabs and
over several thousand cells. If the reference is = then
It is not an annoying bug, it *seriously corrupted my spreadsheet *as the
data while appearing OK was lost durign the save and the problem only became
apparent when the spreadsheet was reopened. I was fooled by the web page
into thinking that the release was stable and fit for use.
