Darwin defs are for older versions, newest MacOSX should work without them.
But you must do some
(small) modifications to Makefile.in. (I am using MacOSX myself.)

there was some effort to port Kannel to Mac OS X (Darwin) , by Bruno maybe
? check the mailing list archives. there are some Darwin specific #fdefs in the
code, but I don't know what's the current status of Mac OS X
support.
