I meant the latest version of Kannel. please use 1.2.0.
as for libxml, the latest version is 2.4.22 and I suggest you use atleast a 2.4.x 
version. you should get the latest libxml from your distribution ftp site and install 
it using your distribution's software management system. after you've done so, check 
where the libxml headers are. if they are not in one of the places listed in my 
message, try running
ln -s <path to libxml header directory> /usr/include/libxml2/libxml
